Putin praises Russian Orthodox Church for its charity work

(MENAFN) In his Christmas message, President Vladimir Putin praised the Russian Orthodox Church for its charitable work and support for veterans of the Ukraine conflict.

Putin attended a Christmas service in Moscow alongside soldiers and their families.

“This wonderful holiday illuminates the world with the light of kindness and love, giving millions hope and the joy of belonging to ancestral spiritual traditions passed down from generation to generation,” he said in a message released by the Kremlin.

He added that the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian churches play a “tremendous and unique role” in unifying society, promoting patriotism, and safeguarding the country’s “rich historical and cultural legacy.”

Religious organizations also carry out charity initiatives and assist veterans, work that Putin said “deserves the utmost recognition.”

The president has consistently emphasized the importance of protecting and fostering “traditional spiritual and moral values” while promoting Russian culture both domestically and abroad. In November 2022, he signed a decree directing state institutions to combat what was described as “destructive ideologies.”
